Charles McDowall Smyth was born in England and moved to Nova Scotia where he worked as an engineer. In WWI he was with the Canadian Engineers and was awarded the Military Medal, the Victory Medal and the Coronation Medal. Smyth was later President of the Association of Canadian Engineers in Nova Scotia. |

The fonds consists of a MS notebook (photocopy) and transcript of Major Charles McDowall Smyth's account of the end of WWI and the Armistice, dated Nov. 12, 1918. Smyth was in the Canadian Engineers in France and Belgium. Biographical materials include photocopies of photographs and obituary. |
