What is Summon

Watch the video (1:35) summon video

Summon is an intuitive and fast search engine that helps you discover relevant information on any topic from the University of Victoria Libraries collections. It searches through our collection of books, scholarly journals, newspaper articles, e-books, dissertations, videos, maps, manuscript collections, music scores and more. Rather than search for all of these things in separate databases, Summon provides a single unified search box. From your search results, it is one step to the full text of articles or you can see if a book is available.

What is included in Summon?

Summon includes records from the UVic Libraries Catalogue, records from our digitized collections and as well as citations and full text of 83% of scholarly journals, to which UVic Libraries owns or provides access.

See more details about the content and coverage of Summon.

What if I am not finding the resources I need when using Summon?

Many users will find that Summon points them to all the information they need. Other researchers will want to dig deeper or use search tools not available in Summon. Specialized databases remain available. See Databases A-Z.

How do I use Summon?

Use the single search box to start and then use "Refine your Search" using the options on the left, such as content type, subject or date. For a more specific search, by author or journal title, use the "Advanced Search" option. See the Help link for more search tips that will make your search more precise.

You can even search Summon from your mobile phone mobile (IPhone, Android) by going directly to http://uvic.summon.serialssolutions.com on your mobile web browser.

Summon is now available to the campus community. Please use it and send us your feedback via the feedback form located at the top right.
