A connection file stores the information necessary to connect to and search a Z39.50 compliant library catalogue. The file tells EndNote which library catalogue to search, where to find it, and what search options are available.

- Connections files can be found in the Connections folder in the EndNote folder.
- Connection files end in the suffix .enz

Users can add connection files by:
- Creating their own
- Downloading from UVic's EndNote support page (see below) or
- Downloading other files from Endnote website: http://www.endnote.com/support/enconnections.asp
* UVic Libraries hosts a few connection files for the University of Victoria and a handful of other libraries.
* Note: Save the file in your EndNote Connections folder on your hard drive. Eg. C:\Program Files\Endnote\Connections

How do I use the connection files?
- Open EndNote.
- Choose Connect from the Tools menu.
- Select Connect again.
- Find U Victoria in the list of connections.
- Click Connect. When the connection has been established an EndNote search window appears.
- Enter a search request and click Search. Select the fields to search from the pull-down menus.
- EndNote searches the catalogue and displays the number of references that match the search criteria. Select all or a subset of the retrieved references.
- Click Copy All References To and select Choose Library.
- The new references will be added to the library chosen.
