Getting Started with UVicSpace

These instructions are for faculty and staff. Students with electronic THESES and DISSERTATIONS should follow the directions HERE .

  1. Register for UVicSpace: https://dspace.library.uvic.ca:8443/register
  2. You will receive an email with a link from UVicSpace. After you click the link to complete the registration, you become an "e-person."
  3. Before archiving documents, you need to contact Corey Davis to be authorized to submit to a collection: coreyd (at) uvic.ca or 250-472-5024. If you are a faculty member, you will most likely want to submit to a faculty work collection. For example, you might email Corey:
Hi, I'm a faculty member registered for UVicSpace, and I would like to submit my work to an appropriate collection in [your department or school].

Also feel free to discuss possibilities for creating alternative collections or sub-communities (for a particular research group or project, for instance). Staff should consult with Corey to determine where their publications would best fit.

After you are authorized to submit to a collection, you can start archiving. Log in at My Account and click Submissions, then the "Start a New Submission" link.

If you are archiving previously published works, be sure to check and follow the publisher guidelines listed at the SHERPA RoMEO publisher policy website. Many publishers allow some version of a previously published article to be deposited in an open access repository like UVicSpace, as long as you follow their conditions.
