UVic is accessible by many modes of sustainable transportation including transit, cycling, walking and taxi. Pay parking is in effect for a $2 evening rate. User-pay parking is available in all main campus lots Monday to Saturday and there is no charge for parking on Sundays.

Old Books in New Libraries: Treasures of UVic Libraries
UVic Libraries has a fascinating three-part lecture series starting in January, 2011.
Dr. Helene Cazes will dedicate a three-part lecture series to UVic Libraries " very special collections, and especially the "Seghers Collection" – an unique 7,500 volume library named after Bishop Charles John Seghers (1839-1886). Seghers, the second Catholic bishop of Victoria, arrived on Vancouver Island in 1864 and was murdered in Alaska in 1886. The "Seghers Collection" was placed on permanent loan within the Special Collections Department of the McPherson Library in 1976.
All lectures are from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. and take place in the Special Collections classroom, A003, lower level McPherson Library. These lectures will be audiotaped.
January 17 The Bishop's Books
This lecture gives an overview to the unique "Seghers Collection" that contains the accumulated donations of more than 150 years from the Catholic community on Vancouver Island and Renaissance and Early modern books.
February 7 Special Collections, Special Books, and Special Readers
This lecture gives a "guided tour" of a selection of mini-collections within Special Collections: history of medicine, Bibles, discovery of the Americas and Amer-Indian religions, and Aldine editions of modern dictionaries.
March 28 Plantiniana: Humanist Grafts in Special Collections
Christopher Plantin (1520-1589) could be presented as the epitome of Renaissance humanist printers. He founded a dynasty of learned editors and publishers. An avid book collector, Charles Seghers secured several publications from the Plantin's Presses, now kept in Special Collections, McPherson Library.
If you are coming from off campus, parking is available in Lot B or Lot C or Lot 1 off Ring Road.

16TH Annual UVic Libraries Book Sale for the United Way
The Siberian Expedition Book Launch
UVic alumnus and historian Benjamin Isitt for the UVic launched his new book, From Victoria to Vladivostok: Canada's Siberian Expedition 1917-1919 (UBC Press, 2010). The launch included the interactive Siberian Expedition Virtual Exhibition & Digital Archive (http://www.siberianexpedition.ca/), developed with colleagues from the UVic Humanities Computing and Media Centre.
The Art of the Book ‘08 Reception
A reception will be held on November 5, 2010 at 3:15 - 4:30 p.m. in the reception room adjacent to the Maltwood Prints and Drawings Gallery at the McPherson Library, following a tour of the exhibition at 2 p.m. by Keith Valentine.
Celebrating UVic Authors: 2010 , October21, 2010
Jamie Cassels, Vice-President Academic and Provost, the University of Victoria Bookstore and the University of Victoria Libraries held a reception and reading to celebrate and honour UVic authors who published works in 2009.

As part of Canadian Library Month, Jim Rainer spoke on his career as a collector. The subject range of his book collecting has been varied and includes books on fine press editions, the book arts, wildflowers and gardening, baseball and mechanical pencils!

This lecture by Reg Beatty introduced the questions any would-be book designer must ask and eventually answer -- about format, layout, and type choice
Prof. Annette Hayward, Queen's University, Department of French Studies and winner of the 2007 Governor General's Literary Award for Non-Fiction gave a lecture at the official opening of the Graduate Conference organized by the Masters Program of the French Department.The lecture was accompanied by an exhibit of a few gems from UVic Libraries Special Collections Department.

UVic Libraries and the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild present The Art of the Book ’08, a travelling exhibition of 78 works by 70 book artists from Canada, the U.S. and Japan.

Victorian Poetry and the New Print Media: An Exhibition for Eng 551 exhibit was held in the Archives and Special Collections reading room (A005). The exhibit highlighed the primary content used in Eng 551, a Graduate Seminar taught in the 2010 Winter Session by Dr. Alison Chapman, a Victorian poetry specialist with UVic's English Department
